By now, I’m sure you have received countless emails and letters from UON, full of information on the new study experience you are about to begin! Within these would have been information on O-Week (Orientation Week) at the University.
In my experience of studying abroad, O-Week was a great way to get to know the University, its environment, and the overall feel of the city where I had chosen to spend the next six months of my life.
I arrived at UON a few days before Orientation began, to give myself some time to settle in to my new residence. I am glad I made that decision and I encourage you to do the same!
At O-Week, I met people from my own community, signed up for clubs and societies, and got plenty of free food! It was also the perfect way to get used to riding my second-hand bicycle around campus, and around the city itself.
I had time to take in my surroundings and appreciate the beauty of campus – its natural and built environment. It was great seeing it buzzing with so many new faces – all of them excited, just like me. Each of us were figuring things out, and the information sessions about enrolment and living here were a nice way of easing ourselves into our new lives.
Speaking to Leesa d’Arcy from UON Global, I was told that “O-Week in 2019 will be epic” – the perfect place for new international students to meet their peers, and learn about security, transport, health services and programs around the campuses. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the UON Global staff and International Student Club members (so be sure to sign up).
There will also be updates on new student excursions in and around the city of Newcastle – for example, our Blackbutt Reserve tours.
Lastly, don’t’ forget to check the 2019 International Orientation Week schedule, which has the entire schedule and everything you need to know to make the most of your first week at UON.
Hope to see you there, at Orientation!
