Navigator is a brand new way for the University of Newcastle to connect with students.

We want your university experience to be the best it can be. And it really is so much better when you know what is going on. That is why Navigator is here to help you find out exactly what you need to know about studying at the University of Newcastle.  

Navigator is your key to not just classes, but everything student-related.

You can be sure Navigator is keeping you in the loop with blog articles, podcasts and videos on how to ace your courses, find success in your future career, enhance your social life, and take care of your well-being while at uni.

Ashley Naylor

Ash Naylor (she/her) is a final year Bachelor of Communications student from University of Newcastle, majoring in Media Arts Production. With a love for everything media, music, and more, she is also a concert photographer and reviewer. She also dabbles in social media management, documentary and short film videography and directing, plus website design.

 In her work at Navigator, Ash loves diving deep into university culture- her favourite piece she has worked on was her guide to Student Representation.

Bea King

Bea is a creative and passionate designer with a background in animation, illustration and video.Studying a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design and a Diploma of Languages (majoring in Japanese), she dedicates her time to creating fun, engaging content that will catch anyone’s attention. She often catches up on What’s On? to help find fun things to do around campus.

Nicholas Bruce
Nicholas is currently studying a Bachelor of Communication majoring in Media Arts Production after transferring from from a Bachelor of Information Technology. Nicholas has always had an interest in media since receiving cochlear implants as a child. One of Nicolas’ passions is trying to create accessible media on-screen and behind the scene.
Zafreen Sultana
Video Team
Zafreen is a passionate videographer and video editor. She recently completed Bachelor of Communication (Media Arts Production) and is currently undertaking her Honours year. As a new addition to the navigator team, she hopes to bring creative video content that will help strengthen the student community bonding.
Kiera Leather
Video Team
Kiera is a third year Communications student majoring in Media Production. Her favourite Navigator Content is the What’s On videos as she loves filming, editing and is a huge film buff”
Kelsey Gray
Writing Team

Kelsey is a dedicated student and valued member of the Writing Team. She is studying a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Science and her favourite work for Navigator is her article on overcoming disappointment.

Tegan Blair
Writing Team

Tegan is a knowledgeable and perceptive writer and valued addition to Navigator’s writing team. Tegan is a Bachelor of Visual Communication student and her favourite work for Navigator was her piece on maintaining social connections during isolation as it encouraged her to practice what she preached.

Brad Cook
Video Team

Brad is a talented videographer & video editor and is currently completing his Bachelor of Communication (Media Production). His favourite work for Navigator has been the What’s On? videos as they are a great series to express creativity and have fun with.

Alixandra Coates
Writing Team

Alix is currently studying a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Communication and Media) and is a bubbly and entertaining writer. Her favourite work for Navigator so far has been her @ home how-to guides, as they were a spot of humour and lightheartedness amongst serious COVID-19 content.

Shea Evans
Writing Team

Shea is a creative and joyful addition to the Navigator writing team. He has completed a Bachelor of Creative Industries with a major in Writing and Publishing and is currently undertaking his Honours year in Creative Writing. Sheas favourite work for Navigator was his piece on Combatting Procrastination, even though he feels he isn’t the best at following his own advice.

Lauren Freemantle
Writing Team

Lauren is a recent graduate of BComms (Journalism) and is currently completing her Bachelor of Laws/Diploma of Legal Practice. She is an enthusiastic and valued member of our writing team. Lauren’s favourite work for Navigator was her contribution to the Inspiring Women of UON piece that was published for IWD2020.

Hollie Hughes
Writing Team

Hollie is a bright and dedicated Bachelor of Communication (News and Digital Media) graduate currently studying a Bachelor of Laws/Diploma of Legal Practice. Hollie is a valued member of our writing team and her favourite work for Navigator was her article on UONs First Nation Celebration as it allowed her to learn about how Indigenous students can be supported at this University.
Hayley Sherrard
Video Team

Hayley is an ever-happy face on camera for Navigator’s Video Team. She can be seen presenting videos about her average Day in the Life as a UON student. Her favourite work for Navigator was her O-Week 2020 takeover of the UON Student Central Instagram stories which allowed her to be creative and get to know new students.

Dominic Fitzgerald
Video Team

Dom is a valued member of Navigator’s Video Team, both in front of and behind the camera. Dom is currently studying a Bachelor of Communication (Media Production). His favourite work for Navigator was his Declassified COVID-19 Entertainment Survival Guide.
