*ATTENTION ATTENTION, ENROLMENT IS NEAR*
Have you got your enrolment sorted?
If you’re anything like me in my first few years of study the answer is “no…what…when…why…how?” After two years of being completely stumped every time enrolment came around something magical happened which was me learning a few things.
So here are my tips to help you be a pro at enrolment.
Enrolment Schedule
First…CHECK YOUR ENROLMENT SCHEDULE!
When I first began my treacherous journey here at UON I had no idea this schedule existed. Silly me rocked up to orientation enrolled in third year classes that I thought sounded interesting…by the time I fixed my enrolment to my correct core 1000 level courses the only times left were not the best and my timetable looked a little something like this:
- MON: 9am till 11am
- WED: 12pm till 1pm *6 HOUR BREAK* 7pm till 9pm
- THURS: 11am till 12pm *6 HOUR BREAK* 6pm till 8pm
It’s safe to say my first semester at university felt like my longest.
The enrolment schedule holds the date and times that courses open for enrolment for everyone in your school and typically with course choices it’s first in best dressed so make sure you’re online ready to go at your opening date and time.
Program Plan
Your program plan is your new best friend. I know we tend to fade out when we hear the word ‘plan’ in anything, but trust me this bad boy is going to make sure you’re on track for graduation.
Below is an example of a Bachelor of Business Program Plan for a single major:
It tells you what year, semester and courses you should be enrolling in.
In the plan there are also eligible criteria to meet the requirements of your degree including required units and courses, maximum time to complete your degree and limit of electives.
*Every UON student cries*
Yes that’s right, these requirements also crushed my dreams when I realised I couldn’t stay at uni forever taking only 1000 level electives, this plan would have helped First Year Tahleigha a lot.
All of your program plans can be found via your Program Handbook (which you can search for on the Degrees Page), just look for your degree, click and voila.
You can now also access your Program Plan via AskUON.
Program Advice
Ever heard the phrase ‘not all heroes wear capes’? I’m certain they were referring to Program Advisors.
Quick Story:
I am near the end of my degree and was unsure whether I was eligible to graduate as I have swapped my major a half a dozen times (took me a while to get my sh*t together…don’t judge).
I was unsure whether I would be able to graduate considering my transcript looked like a hot mess. By a simple email to my program advisor they were able to set out a detailed plan on which subjects I must complete and when in order to be eligible for my degree and to graduate on time.
If you wish to contact your program advisor, you may do so by phone or email. You can also book an appointment to see your program advisor at any Student Central location.
YOU’RE WELCOME
