What did you feel when you heard you were the recipient of the Academic Excellence Scholarships Recognising Outstanding Performance in Undergraduate Studies?
If I’m honest, I was in so much shock I was shaking. I’m incredibly honoured and grateful to be a recipient.
What do you think are the personal qualities that have contributed to your academic achievements?
Determination and resilience. I try to put my all in everything I do and work through things even when things get tough.
How do you motivate yourself towards your studies?
I find things that interest me in each of my courses to keep me going and make an insane amount of to do lists to complete for assessments.
Who are your role models?
I wouldn’t say I have one specific role model, I draw inspiration and motivation from people around me for a variety of reasons!
What are your goals for the future?
To achieve a career in Clinical Psychology and to help raise awareness about mental health and its growing impact on communities everywhere.
What are three things you enjoy most about studying at the University of Newcastle?
I enjoy the quiet atmosphere of Callaghan, the approachability and friendliness of the UON staff and meeting really amazing people in and out of my course.
What tips do you have for other students when it comes to excelling in their studies?
When the going gets rough, don’t be too hard on yourself and try to take things a step at a time. Reach out to your academic staff and your peers. Uni is much less daunting when you have friends and a good support system.
